2004 acura mdx review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Power has increased, and a more compact five-speed automatic transmission shifts even more smoothly than before. Acura has updated the optional navigation system and added a rearview camera that engages when the transmission is in reverse. A dvd entertainment system with wireless infrared headphones is now available.  for 2004, mdx gets another round of updates. This is what the auto industry calls a mid-cycle revision, and the improvements are as extensive as any undertaken so far. Horsepower and torque increase, thanks to a new dual-exhaust system. This so-called luxury suv remains one of the best values in the class. lineupthe mdx is an acura, so it follows the brand's all-inclusive price strategy, with limited options. It's offered in a single trim level, powered by a 3. 5-liter, 265-hp v6 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.  mdx 36,400) comes standard with a long list of luxury and convenience features, including many that are extra-cost options on its competitors: leather seating surfaces and leather door inserts; keyless remote entry; power windows, door locks and mirrors; power tilt-and-slide moonroof; cruise control; seven-speaker am/fm/cassette stereo with in-dash cd player; power adjustable front seats; alloy wheels and a multi-function digital trip computer. For 2004, there's also a standard tire pressure monitoring system that uses sensors in the valve stem of each wheel to alert the driver when tire pressure drops significantly below the recommended level.  even with a host of improvements, 2004 mdx prices reflect a modest price increase of $700, or less than 2 percent compared to 2003. The system comes complete with two infrared (ir) wireless headphones and a wireless remote control. Kids dig it.  the dvd-based navigation system 2200) needs only one disc to cover the entire continental u. Recent enhancements include voice recognition and upgraded graphics. It looks sturdy and stable with a wider, firmer stance than some competitors. The styling updates for 2004 don't do much to alter the basic look.  the signature acura grille, now with a satin chrome finish, forms the centerpiece for a new, more tapered front end. The mdx's headlights are more angular than before; new projection-type beams enhance both illumination and appearance. There's a chin spoiler integrated into the front bumper to move air smoothly to the sides of the car and improve aerodynamics. The rear end has been updated with new, larger taillights and dual exhaust tips.  yet even with these updates, the mdx still looks like an mdx. Limited overhang at either end contributes to a dense, compact demeanor that belies this suv's heft and somewhat exaggerates the size of the mdx's mid-section. Some believe the large greenhouse adds to the straightforward sense and strong presence. Others claim it makes the mdx seem more like a minivan than a big suv.  what isn't obvious except in a body-off view is the duality of construction under the mdx. It is both unibody and body on frame. This centaur-like approach gives uncommon rigidity and strength gained from longitudinal rails with eight box-section cross members. This is the thinking engineers' path to making a car/truck both a car and a truck, whichever is appropriate to the occasion. The effect is noise, vibration and harshness control on par with a car, and the load-and stress-management characteristics of a truck. The finish inside is excellent, with new titanium-look trim for 2004. The materials are generally high grade, and the fit and matching of various panels is first-rate.  airy, perforated leather adorns the seats, side panels, steering wheel and shift knob. There is nothing swoopy or eye-popping about the instrument panel, just easily read instruments with an unobstructed view. Simple, large knobs are easy to operate whether that hand is wearing mittens or has long fingernails. The overall sense is the serenity of simplicity.  the air bag fits flat into the passenger-side dash. Sun visors have extensions for those sharp shafts of sun angling low at dawn and dusk. The back-up video camera with the navigation system is at least as useful as the more common, beep-beep-beep systems that warn of hard-to-see obstacles with electronic sound or readout. Bottom line, this reverse-view camera is a good thing, but it takes some getting used to: first, to get comfortable with the extreme fish-eye view, and second, to trust it. The wide panoramic images on the display screen tend to distort depth. A convenient walk-in feature slides the mdx's entire second seat forward with the touch of a lever, located on the curb side. This slider has been improved for 2004 by extending forward travel 40 percent, making entry to the third row even simpler. When not in use, both the second and third rows fold to disappear completely into the floor, leaving a flat surface with no protrusions to scratch luggage or inhibit cargo loading. The seats split for a varied mix of people and stuff.  with the second and third seats stowed, there's room for a ton of stuff. With 81. 5 cubic feet of cargo space, the mdx dwarves five-passenger competitors such as the bmw x5 (54. 4 cubic feet) and infiniti fx (64. 5). It beats all but the volvo xc90 (84. 9 cubic feet) among seven-passenger competitors. Mdx also delivers 4,500 pounds of boat-towing capacity.  the split air-conditioning system is one of the more impressive features. Not only can those in back have a different temperature than the front-seat riders, but one zone can get heat while another gets air conditioning. Every seat in the house has a shoulder harness as well as a lap belt. (many suvs do not come with a shoulder belt in the rear center position.) anchors for child seats are everywhere. Lots of cup holders, too.  we like the navigation system for its intuitive simplicity. Indeed, this may be the best gps-guided system going. A novel capability, and one uniquely appropriate for a vehicle equipped to seek out uncharted outbacks, is a feature that leaves electronic bread crumbs on screen. Its highway manners are excellent. It corners well for a vehicle of its heft, though without the keen turn-in of the bmw x5. Mdx feels extremely stable and as untippable as a rhino.  its 3. 5-liter, 24-valve vte. 2002 acura rl review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Increased horsepower, sport-tuned suspension. introductionthe 3. 5 rl is the ultimate luxury acura. Like nearly all honda products, the rl is light on its feet and uses front-wheel drive. With only a 3. 5-liter v6 for power, it goes head-to-head with rear-drive, v8-powered competitors.  the rl does a lot of things well, and nothing badly. Like so many honda products, its strength is its balance. There are expensive sedans that are smoother, more powerful, or more agile. Wider p225/55r16 michelin all-season radials and a firmer suspension enhance the rl's already impressive cornering grip. The speed-sensitive power steering has been re-tuned for more road feel. lineupacura has kept the rl model lineup commendably simple: there's just one model, the 3. 5 rl, listing for $43,150. All are powered by a 3. 5-liter v6.  nearly every conceivable amenity comes with the price of admission, including traction control, stability control, front and side-impact airbags, automatic air conditioning with micro air filtration, full leather upholstery, eight-way power seats with memory and heat, a moonroof, a bose sound system with a six-disc cd changer, and a power assist for everything that could be power assisted.  the only option offered is a $2,000 dvd-based satellite navigation system. walkaroundthe acura rl is the largest car honda-acura sells in the united states. This arrangement may lack credibility in the eyes of some purists, but it doesn't seem to hurt the rl's real-world performance.  outside, the rl hasn't changed significantly since its last re-styling in 1999. A sharply chiseled front end showcases a large, formal grille, and sharp creases run the length of the body just below window height. Chrome trim surrounds the grille and windows, and accents the rear deck and rub strips. The rl possesses a substantial, commanding look, similar in spirit to the ls 430 or the current mercedes-benz e-class.  beneath the skin, the rl's body structure is designed to minimize flex and vibration. Vibration dampening devices in the chassis, including hydraulic mounts for the rear suspension, ensure occupants ride in silky serenity.  acura's side-impact airbags are among the most sophisticated in production. They deploy from the seat bolster, rather than the door panel. Furthermore, the front passenger airbag deploys with less force in light contact or at a lower speed than it would in a heavy impact or at higher speeds. interiorthis is a comfortable, luxurious car. From any of its seats, the 3. 5 rl has the look and feel of an expensive car. Camphor wood trim is polished to a satin luster. Plastic finished with pearlescent flecks and mica provides a rich, durable finish. Leather surfaces are supple, with the appropriate, no-doubt-it's-leather scent.  the rl's cabin seats five in comfort, with interior dimensions that are competitive with the lexus ls 430 and current mercedes-benz e-class. The front seats are firm enough for good support, but never hard on the backside. Computer-designed seat springs dampen vibration. There's adequate rear headroom.  rear passengers can adjust the register on the back of the center console to direct airflow toward their feet or face. A pass-through portal to the trunk accommodates long items such as skis. A compartment on the left side of the trunk is useful for holding a bottle of wine or other small grocery items that tend to roll around on the way home. The cd changer is located in the trunk instead of in the dash where it's more convenient.  all the amenities are there, including an automatic day/night rear-view mirror and driver-position memory that links the seat, steering wheel and side mirrors. The driver looks at electroluminescent gauges that are crisp and easy to read, even in bright sunlight. Switches are easy to find and adjust. We were not enamored with center console armrest that extends upward.  the optional navigation system features big graphics that are easy to follow. It's easy to program destinations and there's an all-important cancel button, though turning it off takes too many steps. The menu is easy to use with a little practice. Deviate from the prescribed route and it quickly recalculates. The display shows both a route map and directions for turns, with plenty of warning. The voice prompt, which can be turned on or off, has advantages, though it takes some getting used to. Detailed maps and instructions for the entire u. Are available on a single disk. driving impressionthe acura rl transports driver and passengers in comfort, and with a high level of satisfaction and style. With dampening devices throughout the car, very little engine vibration finds its way into the cabin. At idle, it's easy to forget the v6 is running.  but not when the driver jabs the gas pedal: the rl steps out in an exhilarating rush, and the subdued roar of the engine never lets anyone forget that this is a carefully crafted mechanical beast. Stomp on it from a full stop, and 60 mph arrives in less than 8 seconds. Kickdown shifts are immediate. Past rl's have traveled on the soft side of the road, while avoiding wallow and float, and still keeping the driver in touch with the road. The 2002 rl feels a little firmer on the road, and through the steering wheel. And if the driver feels frisky, the rl is up to the job. It turns in quickly for a large, heavy sedan, takes a steady set and tracks through a curve with authority. Aerodynamic tweaks on the front end, mirrors and underside keep wind noise to a minimum, even at triple-digit speeds. And in the rare air of luxury sedan prices, the rl comes with an exceptionally handsome window sticker.  a lexus ls 430 is a bit smoother, quieter and quicker than the acura rl, perhaps. But with its own navigation system and comparable equipment, the ls 430 retails for nearly $15,000 more. Even six-cylinder competitors like the mercedes-benz e320 can cost $5,000 more than the rl, without as many amenities. 2006 acura mdx review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Through the five model years since, the mdx has been steadily improved in all areas.  the body has grown more rigid, allowing better vibration control and a smoother ride. Power has increased, and a more compact five-speed automatic transmission shifts even more smoothly than before. Side curtain airbags covering all three seating rows were added, as were tire pressure monitors. Front and rear end styling has been redone, with a more aggressive edginess. Acura has updated the optional navigation system and added a rearview camera that engages when the transmission is in reverse. A dvd entertainment system with wireless infrared headphones is available. The system comes complete with two infrared wireless headphones and a wireless remote control. It comes with voice recognition and three months' prepaid subscription to onstar's basic service (emergency assistance and airbag deployment monitoring); the full onstar package, with route support and concierge service, is optional 399/year). The system incorporates a rearview camera that transmits pictures from behind the vehicle onto the navigation screen when the mdx is in reverse gear.  standard safety features comprise the required dual-stage front airbags, three-point seatbelts and adjustable head restraints for all seating positions and child safety seat anchors (latch) in rear seats. In addition, fitted to all mdxs are front seat-mounted side airbags that protect occupants' upper body in side impacts and side curtain airbags covering all three rows of seats that insulate against head injury in rollovers as well as side impacts. A standard tire pressure monitoring system uses sensors in the valve stem of each wheel to alert the driver when tire pressure drops significantly below the recommended level. The mdx also comes with antilock brakes, electronic brake force distribution (which balances front-rear brake application depending on speed and vehicle load) and brake assist (which optimizes brake application in emergency stops). These active safety features can help the driver avoid a wreck. walkaroundthe acura mdx won't draw a gasp for unique design or beauty of line. It looks sturdy and stable with a wider, firmer stance than some competitors. The mdx's angular headlights house projection-type beams. An aerodynamic chin spoiler integrated into the front bumper directs air smoothly to the sides of the car. The rear end sports large taillights and dual exhaust tips.  in other words, the mdx still looks like an mdx. We say, both.  what's most interesting, and isn't obvious except in a body-off view, is the duality of construction under the mdx. It is both unibody and body on frame. This approach gives uncommon rigidity and strength gained from longitudinal rails with eight box-section cross members. It's the thinking engineers' path to making a car/truck both a car and a truck, whichever is appropriate to the occasion. The hoped-for effect is noise, vibration and harshness control on par with a car and load and stress management characteristic of a truck. The company also claims its suv can be hit from behind by a vehicle going 35 mph without the third row of seats being breached. The materials are generally high grade, and the fit and matching of various panels is first-rate.  airy, perforated leather adorns the front and second row seats, side panels, steering wheel and shift knob. There is nothing swoopy or eye-popping about the instrument panel, just easily read instruments with an unobstructed view. Simple, large knobs are easy to operate whether that hand is wearing gloves or has long fingernails. The overall sense is the serenity of simplicity.  the air bag fits flat into the top of the passenger-side dash, where it deploys first up and then back toward the passenger, a sequence some crash analysts believe provides the most effective protection in frontal collisions.  attention to detail is evident throughout. The sun visors have extensions for those sharp shafts of sun angling low at dawn and dusk. The roof-mounted grab handles don't go clunk against the ceiling when released; they whisper their damped way back into place. The beverage holders are engineered specifically for the seats they serve, with those in the rear configured to hold larger soda and water bottles and rectangular juice boxes and those in the forward areas with multi-tiered, stepped bottoms to fit containers of different sizes and rubber lips to corral tipping cups.  automatic headlights and an auto-up feature for the driver's window are standard. We see these seats as good for only occasional use, not regular use. A convenient walk-in feature slides the mdx's entire second seat forward with the touch of a lever, located on the curb side. When not in use, both the second and third rows fold to leave a flat surface with no protrusions to scratch luggage or inhibit cargo loading. The seats split for a varied mix of people and stuff.  and with those second and third seats stowed, there's room for a ton of stuff. With 81. 5 cubic feet of cargo space, the mdx dwarfs five-passenger competitors such as the bmw x5 (54. 4 cubic feet) and infiniti fx (64. 5). It beats all but the volvo xc90 (85. 1 cubic feet) among seven-passenger competitors. A thoughtful touch is room enoug.

2007 acura rl review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The ultimate luxury commuter. introductionthe acura rl is sporty and fun to drive, combining a free-revving, 290-horsepower v6 engine with all-wheel drive, and a nicely balanced suspension for great grip, responsive handling and superior stability. Yet it rides smoothly. The throttle and brakes are smooth and easy to modulate, making the rl a comfortable car in stop-and-go traffic.  acura's innovative all-wheel-drive system makes the rl easy to drive and helps keep its driver out of trouble. Called super-handling all-wheel drive, the system overdrives the outside rear wheel when motoring around corners, improving the handling balance and enhancing stability. Indeed, the rl is very stable in corners. We found it smoothes over minor driver errors, making us look and feel skillful. With this setup, the rl handles adverse weather exceptionally well, making it an excellent choice in seattle, denver, chicago, boston, or anywhere else that gets rain and snow. Acura's navigation system is the best in the business. This system works impressively well. We've put it to good use in avoiding traffic jams in los angeles.  the acura rl can help drivers avoid pile-ups. The optional collision mitigation braking system works with the adaptive cruise control. Using radar, the system will alert the driver, pretension the seatbelts, and slam on the brakes when it senses an imminent impact. We tested this system in a controlled exercise and were very impressed with its ability to warn the driver and help avoid an accident or, in the worst case, reduce the severity of the impact.  for 2007, some of the features that used to be standard have been made optional to reduce the base price. Acura's satellite navigation system and active front lighting, which aims the headlights into turns, are no longer standard. lineupthe 2007 acura rl is available with three levels of equipment (one more than last year), and with no additional options.  the base rl 45,780) comes loaded with nearly every luxury and convenience feature imaginable, including leather upholstery.  with the technology package, the rl 49,400) comes with satellite navigation, acuralink with real time traffic reporting, a rearview camera, zagat reviews, active front lighting, and wood interior trim.  the rl with technology package plus cmbs and pax 53,200) adds acura's collision mitigation braking system and michelin pax run-flat tires.  accessories include a wood steering wheel and shift knob, all-weather floor mats, a trunk net and cargo organizer, and an engine-block heater for cold climates.  safety features include super handling all wheel drive, vehicle stability assist with traction control, and anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist. Passive safety features include driver's and front-passenger's dual-stage, dual-threshold airbags, side curtain airbags designed to provide head protection for passengers in all outboard seating positions, and side-impact airbags designed to provide torso protection for driver and front passenger; with an occupant position detection system for the front passenger. A tire pressure monitoring system is also standard. The optional rearview camera can help alert the driver to small children behind the vehicle when backing up. walkaroundsleek and sporty, the acura rl is an attractive car, though not particularly interesting. Parked next to a toyota camry, the rl looks anonymous.  its muscular exterior styling is designed to suggest abundant power. In front, a dramatically sloping hood leads down to an aggressive front fascia with angular headlight treatments, acura's signature five-sided grille, and distinctive lower air intake openings. The front end is smooth with nicely integrated bumpers and headlamps.  the rear is short to reduce aerodynamic drag and improve maneuverability. The rear three-quarter view is suggestive of a bmw 7 series: viewed from the side, the rear deck seems separated from the fenders.  high-intensity discharge headlights employ the active front lighting system, which swivels the headlight beams up to 20 degrees in either direction when the steering wheel is turned, providing better visibility when cornering. interiorthe cabin is luxurious and functional. The seats are comfortable for cruising yet supportive for hard driving. The wide armrests have a nice soft feel. The acura rl is a roomy car, though the back seats don't offer as much room as some of the other cars in this class do.  the cabin is finished in handsome leather with attractive stitching. Real wood is used sparingly and tastefully around the cabin on all but the base model, and it's not too shiny. Acura says it used the finest materials and exacting attention to detail in the interior design. It shows.  the technology package includes satellite navigation, which features voice recognition and a large, eight-inch display screen. Positioned at the top of the center stack, the display looks like it might be a touch screen, but it isn't. Instead, an interface dial functions something like a computer mouse to control all accessory functions. Positioned on the center stack, in front of the shifter, the dial is rotated like a knob and rocked like a joystick to select among function menus displayed on the screen. Pushing down on the knob selects the highlighted function. Functions controlled by the interface dial include the climate control system, audio, navigation, and the acuralink satellite communications system. This interface dial is similar in concept to that of bmw's controversial idrive, but acura added redundant buttons on the instrument panel and steering wheel for most of the commonly used functions and it's easier to use than bmw's system.  acura's navigation systems are perennially among the best available and the rl's system works very well. In the past, we've praised them for their ease of operation, clear instructions, speedy route calculations, and absence of errors. As with all of these systems, there is a learning curve, however. It works best in the cities that have the infrastructure to support it, los angeles among them. Traffic flow is shown by color-coding the highways in three levels: light traffic is shown in green, normal traffic in yellow, slow traffic in red. The driver can view the map and choose the routes with the lightest traffic. The system uses live data from the highway departments using technology developed by xm satellite radio. It's easy to use, and commuters in cities with this technology will find it's well worth the cost of the package.  bluetooth wireless technology allows hands-free dialing and communication and integrates compatible cell phones. As with other features, the bluetooth cellphone setup can respond to voice commands. The keyless access system automatically unlocks the doors and allows the driver to start the car without having to dig the keyless remote out of pocket or purse.  the back seats are comfortable, though they don't offer quite as much space as some of the other cars in this class. The rear doors open wide, making it easier to get into and out of the back seats. A retractable rear sunshade filters the sun, nice for back-seat riders on bright days. The keyless access system prevents locking the key fob in the trunk. driving impressionthe acura rl is smooth, responsive and enjoyable in everyday driving. On winding roads, it delivers agile handling and a taut, poised feel. It grips the corners, has excellent transient response and stops in a short distance. The ride is a nice balance, firm enough to feel expansion joints but not so firm as to be harsh. The rl cruises easily and comfortably. The cabin is quiet, benefiting from a noise cancellation system that reduces road noise and tire noise but especially boom from the engine exhaust.  super-handling all-wheel drive improves the handling of the rl considerably. Sh-awd distributes power not only between the front and rear wheels but also between the left and right rear wheels. The system controls this distribution of power precisely to enhance handling. As a result, the rl doesn't plow in corners. It simply motors around them.  we found this all-wheel-drive setup particularly helpful in tight corners where it keeps the nose of the car tucked in. The car seemed to respond well to throttle in the corners. The effects of overdriving one of the rear wheels is most noticeable at competition speeds, but the system improves handling feel even at a moderate pace. The rl just feels precise. 2008 acura mdx review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Powerful and luxurious, seating for seven. introductionthe acura mdx was completely redesigned for the 2007 model year. Larger than before, it improves upon on the first-generation mdx (2001-2006), which had a unique combination of style, design, utility, and a rock-solid powertrain. The mdx balances power and fuel economy well. All that made it very popular among mid-size luxury suvs. Given last year's complete redesign, there are only a few minor changes for 2008.  for 2008, the mdx adds a new auto dimming day/night rear view mirror; updates to the navigation and real-time traffic systems; a new exterior paint color choice of sterling gray metallic; and a taupe interior is now available with the aspen white pearl exterior.  the acura mdx is built on a truck platform, not on an adaptation of a passenger car platform. It is among the largest vehicles in its class, offering lots of space for folks and cargo. From its wild grille to its elaborately stylish cat's-eye headlamps to its huge new taillamps, it has a more muscular look compared to the original, especially in the areas around the tires. Sporty styling cues include the big, fat dual exhaust tips that look like they belong on a v8, and the hefty five-spoke alloy wheels.  the seats are laid out in three rows of two but can offer seating for up to seven people. The 10-way driver and 8-way front passenger power seats allow huge adjustment latitude for long-distance comfort for drivers of many different sizes.  its rigid structure is beneficial for ride and handling as well as tightness, which should prove beneficial as the vehicle ages.  it has a large, powerful v6 engine, combined with a five-speed manual-shift automatic transmission. Inside, there is an organic, unified presentation of instruments and controls, a more involving scheme for the driver that should be appreciated by moms and dads alike.  we found the mdx quiet and quick, with nicely weighted steering. The active damper system that comes on the sport model makes driving the mdx more fun, with a flatter ride and less body roll in the corners. The driver can select between sport and comfort modes for sharper handling or a softer ride. The navigation system, satellite radio, ipod input jack and bluetooth phone synching make it easy and fun to go down the road.  the acura mdx competes with the bmw x5, volvo xc90, lexus rx 350, mercedes-benz ml 350. The acuralink satellite communications provides information specific to the vehicle, including required maintenance information. There is a 410-watt els surround sound system with 6cd changer and 10 speakers, wireless telephone equipment, and three-zone automatic climate control that automatically adjusts temperature and fan speed according to the position of the sun. Active safety features, designed to help the driver avoid accidents in the first place, include all-wheel-drive, electronic stability control, and anti-lock brakes (abs) with electronic brake force distribution and brake assist for panic stops. The mdx earned a top safety pick designation from the insurance institute for highway safety, which conducts crash tests for the insurance industry. walkaroundthe exterior and interior of the acura mdx were designed in america, at honda's facilities in los angeles and ohio, with input from design centers in st. Moritz, switzerland, and milan, italy.  the grille is a metal-filled hole that looks like a battering ram, and the side window arrangement is designed to suggest more sportiness than the original, with converging sheetmetal lines built into the design. The head lights and taillights are heavily sculpted. The sides are clean, with no cladding or side trim. The wheel openings, especially the fronts, are pronounced, for a more sporty stance.  this second-generation mdx is more than two inches longer in length and wheelbase than the first-generation mdx (2001-2006), but it doesn't look like it from the outside, with a wider track and a lower stance.  acura's power tailgate system is available on the mdx with the entertainment package. It can be operated either from the remote key fob, from a button on the driver's door panel, or from a button located inside the tailgate. The location of the tailgate's motor is the d pillar, not the roof, which yields more headroom for the third-row occupants. The tailgate can also be operated manually. interiorthe interior of the acura mdx is designed with driver-centric instrumentation and displays. The two-line readout display for the climate control and entertainment systems uses large segmented figures and is very easy to read and interpret. There is scant rear legroom in the third row for adults, making the third row strictly for the kids.  cargo capability is competitive for the class. When the second and third row seats are folded down, the floor is flat, and for ease of use, the third row can be folded flat without removing the head restraints. In spatial terms, the interior has 142. 2 cubic feet of passenger space. Mdx is rated to tow up to 5000 pounds.  its rigid structure, and long wheelbase add up to a quiet ride quality, and we've experienced zero squeaks, creaks, groans or rattles.  acura says the 300-hp 3. 7-liter v6 engine is the most powerful v6 engine in any suv sold in the u. These are the fastest-acting shock absorbers in the world, and they make driving an suv much sportier, with a flatter ride and less body roll in the corners. A console-mounted switch lets the driver select between sport and comfort modes with the shocks.  with the power and torque available from the engine, and the amazing capabilities of the acura super handling all-wheel-drive (sh-awd), this vehicle handles very well. This system actively distributes just the right amount of torque not only between the front and rear wheels but also between the left and right rear wheels. Not only does this help in ice, rain and snow, but helps drivers maintain control in cornering situations even when the road is dry.  we drove the mdx in the hill country of western pennsylvania and eastern west virginia, and found it to be a delightful traveling partner. The torque-sensing variable power rack-and-pinion steering provided the right amount of help in every situation from parking to very high speed interstate travel, with nice weight at the wheel and good center behavior. The wheel was connected to big 255/55r18 mud-and-snow tires, very nice to have along, not too noisy, with plenty of cornering grip. Braking performance in those hills was exemplary. summarythe acura mdx is sized right for the job. It looks aggressive and sporty. The interior design is especially zoomy, but not at the expense of function and ease of use. It's a good choice for drivers who need a truck-based suv that can tow.  newcartestdrive.
