2002 ford f-250 sd review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A hard-working truck with civilized manners. introductionwhen the going gets tough, the tough buy a super duty.  this is no truck for dilettantes or poseurs. Ford's super duty pickups look like serious big rigs, and they are. They are heavy-hauling, heavy-towing machines. And they outsell their dodge and chevrolet analogs combined.  these are specialized trucks as well, trucks with long lists of options to do special jobs. Any one of them can pull everything from a horse trailer to an airstream camper. They are all the truck most consumers will ever need. Ford also builds even bigger f-450, 550, 650, and 750 commercial-grade trucks.  f-250 and f-350 are available in regular-cab, extended-cab (supercab) and crew cab configurations. New for 2002 is a six-speed manual transmission, standard with the 5. 4-liter and 6. 8-liter engines.  also new for 2002 is long list of interior upgrades, to make these trucks more comfortable and user-friendly than before. lineupmost domestic-branded pickups are offered in more configurations than any normal human can count.  all ford f-250 models come with single rear wheels. F-350 models are available with single rear wheels (srw) or dual rear wheels (drw). The latter, often called 'duallies,' are good for towing as they offer higher tongue-weight ratings.  ford super duty f-250 competes with the other heavyweights from detroit: dodge ram 2500, chevrolet silverado 2500 and gmc sierra 2500. F-350 dual rear wheel models compete with the 3500-series models from gm and dodge.  many trucks these days are used for work and personal duty. Three trim levels are offered: standard xl, mid-level xlt, and luxurious lariat.  wheelbase lengths include 137 inches (regular cab), 142 inches (supercab short-bed), 158 inches (supercab long-bed), 156 inches (crew cab short-bed) and 172 inches (crew cab long-bed). walkaroundsome folks have compared the exterior styling of the f-250 to the big-rig look of the dodge ram. Ford's super duty trucks used to share their cabs with the f-150 light-duty models, but the current line of super duty pickups broke from that tradition. While the f-150s have rounded edges, the super duty trucks look bluff-nosed and serious. Their menacing, square-jawed front ends, brawny raised hoods and aggressive headlamps are a big tip-off that there are significant differences between a garden-variety f-150 and a super duty. We think they are the best-looking heavy duty pickups available.  but there's more here to separate the super duty trucks than just looks. It also makes it easier to climb in, a welcome feature when juggling tools, briefcases, or even toddlers. The interior features a fold-down armrest, a floor console that can accommodate a laptop, and a removable hanging bin for storage that can attach to the dash. Controls are big, easy to reach and manipulate. The only exception is the instrument panel dimmer, which is a bit hard to reach. Two large cupholders are provided. The standard cigar lighter is augmented with a second auxiliary power outlet.  a new instrument cluster for 2002 includes a transmission temperature gauge when an automatic transmission is ordered.  also for 2002, ford has added even more car-like luxury features, including six-way power for the passenger's seat on lariat crew cab models. In fact, xlt and lariat now feature entirely new seats with increased bolster height and shoulder width. An improved lumbar support provides a greater range of adjustment. Lariat now features a sunglasses bin and garage-door opener in its overhead console. Map pockets with integrated cup holders are now standard on supercab rear doors, and driver's-side grab handles are standard on all trim levels. Rear-passenger grab handles are now found in all crew cabs.  passenger-side airbags offer a deactivation switch on regular cab and supercab models. Adjustable seatbelt anchors increase safety and comfort. driving impressionthe 5. 4-liter v8 is rated 260 horsepower and 350 foot-pounds of torque. The 6. 8-liter v10 is rated 310 horsepower and 425 foot-pounds of torque. Both engines employ overhead cams for valve control. Steering is precise. Handling by big truck standards is crisp. Body roll is noticeably limited in the corners. And the ride quality is reasonably good, thanks to a compliant suspension. The rear seat cushion folds up and forward and the seatback folds down to create a flat, steel loading surface, a perfect place to put tools and other heavy items that need to stay secure and out of the elements. They hinge on the rear pillars of the cab and swing out a full 90 degrees from the doorsill. This design eases the loading of gear and passengers and contributes to occupant safety with the combination of vertical beams and a cross brace where the front and rear doors meet. summaryford's super duty trucks are enormously popular among people who tow horses, boats, race cars, and collectibles. They are comfortable and secure feeling.  we love the super duty styling. And it becomes a thing of real beauty when its capabilities are considered. model lineupf-250: 4x2 regular cab 137-in. 2002 ford excursion review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. They don’t come any bigger than this. introductionthe ford excursion is the king of big sport-utilities. It is supremely stable; it feels safe and secure on the open highway. The base version adds body side cladding, a cargo net, day/night mirrors, a removable third-row seat and chrome steel wheels. The premium upgrade includes a center floor console, autolamp headlights, rear-seat audio controls, running boards, six-way power front seats, a trip computer, alloy wheels and power rear quarter windows.  limited trim adds automatic front air conditioning, wood grain trim, fog lights, turn signals on the exterior rear view mirrors, wheel moldings, power adjustable pedals, a reverse sensing system, leather seats and speed-sensitive intermittent wipers.  the limited ultimate adds a retractable cargo cover, homelink garage door opener, power adjustable pedals with memory feature, heated front seats and a deluxe steering wheel with audio and air conditioning controls.  three engines are available: a v8, a v10, and a turbocharged diesel. We drove a $38,235 xlt 4x4 with the v10. We've also driven a diesel, which adds about $4,000 to the bottom line.  among the new equipment for 2002 is an available rear-seat entertainment system with a dvd player 1,360). walkaroundthe ford excursion is based on ford's super duty f-series pickup trucks and is more than seven inches longer than the chevrolet suburban.  excursion's rear cargo doors are split three ways. The rear doors are half height, like dutch doors. It generates 310 horsepower and 425 foot-pounds of torque. A 5. 4-liter v8 is available as a no-cost option, but few will be built; it puts out 255 horsepower and 350 foot-pounds of torque. Optional $95 trailer mirrors feature little convex mirrors at the bottom that eliminate blind spots. Ford says the class iv receiver hitch, which comes standard, is designed to prevent smaller cars from going underneath the rear bumper, while a specially designed blockerbeam is designed to accomplish the same goal up front. interiorinside the excursion is a comfortable interior. Removing the third-row seat is easy: flip the seatback forward, yank a bar at the foot of the seat and pull the seat toward the rear of the vehicle; it glides along on rollers. The seat weighs 75 pounds, but in short order i pulled it out and threw it into the back of another suv on a cold montana morning.  set up as a two-seater, the excursion can carry an outlandish amount of cargo. A sheet of plywood slides in easy and lays flat on the floor. Two people could sleep in comfort on the huge, flat cargo area. Believe it or not, we managed to fill an excursion. We were finishing a three-day float-fishing trip. He quickly stuffed all of the supplies from base camp and enough fishing equipment for eight people inside. When he was done stuffing, only seating for two remained and the rear-view mirror was rendered useless. Granted, he could have packed more efficiently, but he was grateful for such a large storage container.  after reorganizing the equipment and putting some of it into another vehicle, six of us piled into the excursion and made the long trip back to town. Cruising along steadily with this load, the excursion demonstrated its virtues of size, stability and power. I was surprised when this cynical group of fishermen sang its praises.  the excursion comes with a nicely designed interior. It's smooth and quiet.  the v10 is a delightful engine. It produces 310 horsepower and can propel the excursion along the interstate at high rates of speed. The v10 generates a very impressive 425 foot-pounds of torque at 3250 rpm. But an excursion 4x4 weighs about 7,200 pounds, so its acceleration performance at high altitudes seems no better than an explorer or expedition.  still, it had no trouble passing other vehicles on two-lane roads. It seems unaffected by high altitude and i was amazed at its ability to accelerate past slower cars on two-lane roads. This engine is best left as an economical engine for utility companies in the flatlands.  while the 4x2 comes with ford's twin i-beam front suspension and coil springs, the 4x4 uses a solid front axle and leaf springs. Differences in ride and handling between the two are surprisingly subtle. The 4x4 handles well, tackling corners with confidence and offering good grip on dirt roads. It does not offer the ride sophistication of the newest generation suburban and yukon xl 1500-series models, however. At high speeds, the excursion is stable. Strong crosswinds and an 18-wheeler going in the opposite direction had little effect.  its long wheelbase means the excursion is not a serious off-road vehicle. The excursion does not offer a system like gm's autotrac, which distributes torque front to rear automatically for slushy, inconsistent conditions. All excursions come with d-load range light-truck tires, lt265/75r-16d. It's so heavy that it doesn't offer a big payload.  there's no getting around the fact that this is a big vehicle and its size is apparent in downtown areas. The suburban is easier to manage. It rides fairly well for a heavy-duty truck and it's luxurious and comfortable. For those who want to tow trailers up to 10,000 pounds, the excursion is a good alternative to a pickup with a cap.  the ford excursion should not, however, be considered as an alternative to a minivan. It's far too thirsty, and its size and design make for poor maneuverability and handling when compared with minivans and light-duty suvs. model lineupxlt 4x2 32,820), xlt 4x4 36,075), limited 4x2 38,795), limited 4x4 41,895). assembled inkentucky. model testedxlt 4x4 38,235). That's right folks, they're becoming harder and harder to find, so act quick before it's gone. The previous owner did a ton of work to it within the past 15 mos., including replacing the oil pan, rear main seal, transmission pump seal, tie rod ends, drag link, both front wheel bearings, front and rear brake pads, rotors, lines, and calipers, replaced bed rails and the fuel lines while the bed was off, both batteries and cables, starter, and belts and hoses... He also installed a banks compressor wheel in the turbo and an afe adjustable waste gate indicator. Power Windows✔ Tachometer✔ Power Locks✔ AM/FM✔ Cruise Control✔ Air Conditioning

2002 ford escape review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It rides smoothly and gets strong acceleration performance from an optional v6 engine. The upgraded engine, in-dash cd, power driver's seat and privacy glass are new standard features for the xlt for the 2002 model year.  a large number of option packages is available for each trim level. For example, the xlt premium package 1230) includes leather seating surfaces, leather-wrapped steering wheel, front buckets with 60/40 split rear bench, front door map pockets, overhead console with dual storage bins, front passenger under-seat storage tray, power moonroof with sunshade. walkaroundford designers worked to achieve a balance between the suv's image of confidence, ruggedness and versatility with an image of agility and fun. The escape's forward-poised stance, large wheel lips, wide body cladding and an integrated bumper guard give a functional look. The escape is wider than other compact suvs and this gives it a look that is both aggressive and well planted. Short front and rear overhangs add more to the sports appeal. Outside door handles are easy to grab and feel like they're going to last.  accessories from ford outfitters include a snap-in pet barrier and a system to haul two mountain bikes in the cargo area. Bike racks can also be mounted on the roof; the standard roof rack with crossbars holds up to 100 pounds. We don't like the idea of getting vehicles with tall ground clearances then bolting running boards on them. Ford says it designed the running boards on the escape so that they do not lower the ground clearance. They are expected to be popular on the escape and are designed to make it easier to install kayaks, snowboards and other toys on the roof rack. Likewise, the rear bumper was designed to aid roof access. interiorford claims the escape is among the most spacious of the small suvs (rated at 133. 9 cubic feet of total interior volume). With the split 60/40 rear seats folded up to accommodate up to five passengers it provides 33. 0 cubic feet. Entering and exiting the vehicle is aided by a low doorsill height and wide door openings.  front-seat roominess is similar to that of the explorer. Rear seats offer good knee room. White-faced instruments, in vogue these days, are in a straightforward instrument panel.  side airbags are optional.  the audio system and heating, ventilation and air conditioning controls in the center stack are angled slightly toward the driver to ease reach while driving. Ford engineers say they tested the placement of the controls by using blindfolded occupants. driving impressionsport-utility vehicles are not sports cars. In spite of that, california's twisting highway 1 is an enjoyable drive in the ford escape. Handling response is relatively taut without that mushiness that characterizes suvs with big off-road tires and long-travel suspensions. On muddy fire roads pocked with puddles and potholes, the escape is a blast.  steering is responsive. It feels direct and accurate without a big dead spot in the center. There's enough feeling in the steering to impart a sense of control. Though this is not a sports car, the tires provide respectable grip in paved corners.  when pushed beyond their limits, the front tires start slipping before the rear tires, just like most front-wheel-drive sedans. Called understeer, this means the escape will describe a wider and wider arc through a corner as it is driven harder into a turn. So it's expected and predictable. Simply back slightly off the throttle and the vehicle tightens its line.  the escape provides surprisingly good transient response in a series of left-right-left corners. This permits quick, yet smooth, driving. Two passengers never paused in an in-depth marketing discussion despite the fact that we were escaping at a brisk pace down highway 1.  the v6 engine delivers good acceleration performance. While there's no such thing as too much power, i never felt lacking in the escape. The transmission shifts smoothly up and down appropriately for the situation and the engine's broad power band never lugs or strains. It isn't the smoothest v6 on the market, nor is it the roughest. A car-like ride makes it easy to live with. AM/FM✔ Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ CD Changer✔ CD Player✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Air Conditioning✔ Aluminum Wheels
